Welcome to our newest WSEMA member David Munson, Emergency Preparedness Manager for the University of Washington Tacoma! David is relatively new to the UWT campus, stepping into his role five months ago after nearly a decade in hospital security leadership and three years of service in the U.S. Army.
Originally from Spokane, David now calls Tacoma home, where he lives with his wife and their adventurous five-year-old German shepherd. Whether it’s kayaking or just spending time outdoors, David and his family make the most of every opportunity to be out and about.
His path into emergency management grew from a desire to keep making a difference after injuries shifted his career away from security work. Earning his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a specialization in homeland security and crisis management opened the door to higher education emergency management—and he’s loving the opportunity to help build plans and create a safer environment for the UW Tacoma community. After seeing friends in the field share WSEMA posts on LinkedIn, David knew he wanted to connect with more emergency managers across Washington and dive deeper into professional development opportunities.
Connect with David Munson on LinkedIn or reach out via email at dm232@uw.edu to say hello and welcome him to our association! As our newest member, you can also find him on our WSEMA app member directory, available on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
Welcome, David! We’re excited to have you as part of our community!
