Welcome new WSEMA member, Brett Bernsten! Brett is the Training and Exercise Program Administrator for Bellevue’s Office of Emergency Management, where he’s been making an impact for nearly three years. Before stepping into emergency management full-time, he spent nine years as a mechanic for the City of Issaquah, where he first got involved with emergency response through their in-house Incident Management Team (IMT). That early exposure sparked a passion for problem-solving and public service, ultimately leading him to a career where he thrives.
Brett has attended the WSEMA conference a few times as a non-member, but now feels like the perfect time to officially join. He’s looking forward to collaborating with like-minded professionals, expanding his network, and advocating for the field. Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Brett now lives in Issaquah with his wife, two boys, and their hybrid retriever. When he’s not working, you can find him racing cars, hiking, or—like many parents—serving as an unpaid chauffeur for his kids’ never-ending sports activities.
